PTO in Egypt 2009
Hi
We have been informed by our travel agent that
the 14 night options in Egypt are selling fast
and as we have used up most of our allocation
they need to know fairly soon how many additional
places we require.
If you are still considering attending PTO and
you were thinking of staying on for the extra week
- which is clearly a snip at only £200 on "all-inclusive" may
we urge you to advise us as soon as possible with
your confirmed booking to avoid disappointment.
Kind regards
George Dawber

For the past few months we have received an excellent newsletter from Ian Wedgewood at Mindstudio. He and his business partner, Ione, operate a studio in East London, where their work ranges from fashion to commercial photography as well as portraiture for the social market. They have great enthusiasm and experience – Ione, originally from the Canary Islands, trained in Argentina, whilst Ian has come from a marketing and training background. As a result, their newsletter contains much useful and interesting information and we have asked them to produce this month's Journal for us. They have agreed to host a fashion shoot for Guild members in their studio, so for those of you who are fazed by working with models or studio lights, or who would just like to build a portfolio, now is your opportunity. Details will be coming soon, but you can register your interest by email. . . . . . |

Making your photographic business work for you is a combination of skills in marketing, selling, administration, dealing with people and technical expertise. To address the last of these issues, each month we will include a short extract from the Guild Manuals of Wedding and Portrait Photography. Although much emphasis is currently placed on candid or reportage shots, it is still essential to know how to improve the look of your subjects through posing – the turn of a foot or hand takes just a second but can make all the difference. |

Since the start of this year, the Guild Journal has been available online – we would like to see more of you taking advantage of the possibilities this offers to submit contributions, and in the next issue we will bring you news of a Guild online photographic competition. Mike Roberts-Butler has been a regular contributor for the past few years, and his latest letter from Dorset contains his usual mix of humour and acquired wisdom. It would be good to hear from more of you!

Speaking of studio lights, we have another opportunity
for you to learn and practice. Jane de Weck,
our member in Eastbourne, is keen to find out
more about the set up she acquired when she took
over an Olan Mills studio. Brian Collier from
The Flash Centre (who has kindly donated a Sun
Bounce as a competition prize). has agreed to
help her out and so Jane will host a workshop
at her studio on 20 th July 2008. Numbers will
be limited due to space, so get your booking
in early! Phil Flowers will also be there to
demonstrate digital workflow and answer any queries
you may have. Details to follow.
We hope you enjoy looking through this month's Journal. Now that the computer is so much a part of everyone's lives we feel that it is a logical progression to produce it online– I know that the ever growing pile of magazines and circulars (most of them unread) create a recycling nightmare for me – with the waste inspectors issuing fines for overfilling wheelie bins, and a heavier presence felt by the Environment Agency, it's important not to include commercial waste with domestic – they don't like you recycling commercial waste!
Just recently I was arrested (the sort of arrest where police turn up at your house, tell you there's nothing to worry about, and then read you your rights before escorting you to the station and shutting you in a cell!) for dumping of commercial waste. Despite being able to show my innocence, I was still fingerprinted and photographed, and they then asked me how I was getting home! I fear we are in the grip of a witch hunt – take heed if you produce commercial waste! |
