Wedding Tips – think before you take
Groom
and Best Man in Front of the Church
A number of choices present themselves with this
shot
• Distances – camera to
subject and subject to background
• Light direction
• Relation of subjects to church
• Composition of subjects (posing)
The photographs illustrate the following points:
1. A full length picture is not satisfactory as
a portrait – this is a picture of the church
with a man in the foreground.
2. An improvement on 1. – this is now a portrait
of the bridegroom with the church as a setting.
3. This hand shaking picture has been reasonably
accomplished, but it means that one face is in sunlight,
the other in shade.
4. Stand both men with their backs to the sun and
use a reflector to give a touch of fill to their
faces. The composition is also improved with relation
to the church in the background.
Don’t use the same picture ideas on every wedding
without thought! Allow the combination of lighting
and background to suggest the actual content and design
of the photograph.
